Also known as Oraziano Park or Campaglione Park, Venafro’s Regional Park of Olive promotes and preserves the traditional olive growing in the Mediterranean area, which has its ancient roots in Venafro.
Ancient Romans considered Venafro’s olive oil the most exquisite of the Empire, and no other olive grove in the world has so many literary quotes than the one in Venafro.
From many centuries the Olive of Venafro grows on Corno Mountain and on Santa Croce Mountain, the massive mountains on the border between Lazio and Molise. The monumental olives in the Regional Park of Olive in Venafro are among the most imporant all around Italy, therefore they were listed among the twenty patriarch trees of Italy in 2011.
In the park you can find different varieties of olive trees, some of which are very rare. These species are preserved and researched in the first Regional Park of Molise, where you can also admire Ancient Roman’s archeological sites, the ruins of the acqueduct and of the small church of Madonna della Libera. The area of the park is very interesting also from a naturalistic point of view: the rocks house several predatory birds such as the lanner falcon and the buzzard.
